CirCoCreation

Recycling process, department of Chemical Engineering and Materials, UCM, 2026
To create a circular urban ecosystem of the built environment that bridges the gaps between different local actors involved in UCCI. To this end, the concept of living labs will be drawn upon to (a) plug in a co-creative production process and (b) develop new metrics to capture the flows of materials between partners and into society. At the practical level, success of the circular ecosystem will be demonstrated by integrating the new metrics in the operational processes of the living lab initiatives. At the theoretical level, the circular ecosystem will inform a ToC (ToC) that captures the different flows of people, materials and processes in terms of their impact and effect on urban resource initiatives. At the public outreach level, valorisation efforts of project outcomes will be augmented via artistic workshops and exhibition modules meant to stimulate public engagement.
Results will contribute to answer the following research questions:
How can a comprehensive understanding of the complex interplay between humans, materials and living environments contribute to the development of future-resilient, sustainable and co-creative urban resource initiatives?
How will the development and testing of new, innovative, socio-spatial monitoring tools further accommodate the measurement of the entangled nature of people, materials and environments in urban circular ecosystem?
The potential impact of CirCoCreation is in making cities, citizens, urban initiatives and local companies better equipped to close material loops in the built environment. A public art festival in the Basque Country that brings together local and international artists to explore the relationship between art, public space and everyday life. Through diverse artistic interventions, the festival transforms and reimagines the local environment. A public art project featuring 50 white flags made from biodegradable milk-based textiles on the Pont Saint-Esprit. Developed through a workshop with DN MADE students at Lycée Cantau, in collaboration with research laboratories and European partners, the project explores ecological and circular approaches to art, materials and public space.
